About this position:
The Automotive Engineering Technician is responsible for vehicle testing, data acquisition, and diagnostic activities in customer and other test vehicles. This is an entry-level position that has the potential to grow into a Project Engineer, Data Analyst, Customer Service, or a Product Development role.
Responsibilities and duties:
Assist engineers and product development specialists with on-vehicle testing
Track and maintain vehicle telematic monitoring equipment
Ensure vehicle data recorders are functioning and recording data
Responsible for test equipment setup, calibration, and usage
Drive and test vehicles, including mileage accumulation, during product development.
Troubleshoot electrical harnesses. Develop, prototype, & validate new electrical harnesses.
Review customer data to verify correctness, completeness, and data fidelity
Respond to all vehicle diagnostic codes that are generated from the test fleet
Identify and concisely describe product bugs. Write and peer review technical reports.
Provide feedback to engineers on customer problems and requests
Work with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information from in-field evaluations
Some night and weekend work will be required as this job supports vehicles on test all around the world.
Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues on passenger vehicles and heavy-duty trucks (Class 8). This can include automotive OEM experience, engineering service providers to automotive industry, or OEM dealership experience.
Strong background with OEM and aftermarket CAN Bus diagnostic devices and OBD scan tools
Strong background in vehicle subsystems and sensor technology (engine, emissions, ADAS, BEVs)
Experienced in using lab-based systems including programmable controllers, data acquisition systems, lab instrumentation is preferred
Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology (Mechanical or Electrical)
Valid Driver's License required. Commercial Driver’s License or EU Trucking License preferred.
Microsoft Office skills- Intermediate
Strong written and oral communication skills. This role interacts with both external customers and internal management.
