Job Description for Manufacturing Engineer

This position is part of our Antaya Technologies business unit within Aptiv’s Connection Systems segment in Warwick, RI. The Connection Systems (CS) segment of Aptiv is a global business with over 20,000 employees and present in 5 continents. You will have a great challenge in driving distributors and their marketing teams.

Summary:

This position is responsible for developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods, and controls; coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products. 

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare and present plans for process improvement, problem resolution, and employee training. 
• Improve manufacturing processes and methods for cost reduction, quality improvement and efficiency. 
• Prepare and coordinate deployment including training of team members.
• Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of lines and equipment.
• Represent manufacturing on cross-functional teams.
• Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
• Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness. 
• Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures.
• Design layout of equipment or workspaces to achieve maximum efficiency.
• Design, install, or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment as needed.
• Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs.
• Train production personnel in new or existing methods.
• Design tests of finished products or processes capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements.
• Requisition and purchase equipment, materials and/or parts.
• Perform capacity and headcount studies (12 months & 5 years).
• Develop the manufacturing system for new programs.
• Develop standardized work and work instructions for new and existing programs.
• Coordinate line setup for new programs and training.
• Coordinate equipment rearrangements and procurements.
• Adhere to EMS and IATF 16949 Policies and Procedures.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned by the manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to understand basic Six Sigma concepts and interpret methodology results.
• Ability to read and write technical specifications and reports.
• Ability to proficiently use various company-related and external systems and databases.
• Ability to work effectively with customers, internal/external personnel, suppliers, and vendors.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to meet time sensitive deadlines, be detail-oriented and maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage several projects simultaneously.

Must Haves (Basic Qualifications):

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering in the field of Industrial, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Metallurgic, Materials; or closely related field.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in manufacturing and/or the automotive industry preferred.
• Problem-solving and analytical skills with knowledge of Six Sigma methodology.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical processes.
• Excellent organizational and technical writing skills.
• Proficient with office applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Solid Works and Outlook.

Nice to Haves (Preferred Qualifications):

• Master’s Degree in Engineering in the field of Industrial, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Metallurgic, Materials; or closely related field.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical processes strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in manufacturing and/or the automotive industry preferred.

• Strong experience with Six Sigma methodology.
